The “Cuban belly palm” with its swollen trunk is endemic to Cuba. It grows to 60 feet with a beautiful rounded crown consisting of plumose leaves that are dark green above and silvery to grayish-green below. It is viciously armed with spines when young, losing them as it matures. Its yellowish green fruits are round.
