Florida native tree to 25′. branches spiky, with a slight zig-zag to them; Foliage pinnate, glossy green, finely toothed, smelling of citrus when crushed;
flowers green, in small cluster in leaf axils, attractive to pollinators despite their size; fruit small, brown, with glossy black seeds.
Host plant of Giant Swallowtail butterflies. Wildlife benefits are worth its spiny nature.
