A small subterranean-stemmed cycad native to Florida, it is commonly known as the ‘Coontie’ and it is the only cycad native to mainland U.S.A. It is a highly ornamental plant commonly used in dense plantings in Florida. It holds up to 5 leaves per stem up to 30 inches long and produces relatively large seeds that ripen to a bright orange color.
