Gaussia maya is a crown-shafted palm with plumose pinnate leaves native to Belize, adjacent Mexico and Guatemala. It grows to 60 ft. with 12 inch stems, that are thickest near its base. Its colorful infructescenses are laden with red-orange fruits that are oddly born from the its leaf scars, displaying several on its stem at any one time. it is said to be somewhat cold tolerant.
