Lagerstroemia floribunda

Thai crape myrtle, an evergreen to semi-deciduous tree native to Indochina and Peninsular Malaysia, where it grows in humid forest and along riverbanks. Usually 30–50 ft in cultivation, but capable of 65 ft or more with a dense conical to cylindrical crown and a fluted trunk base. Leaves are simple and opposite, oblong-elliptic, up to 25 cm long. Flowers are about 1 in across with crinkled petals, bright pink to mauve fading nearly white within a day, carried in terminal panicles up to 20 in long. Fruits are oblong woody capsules holding small winged seeds. Hardy only to USDA Zone 10; needs moisture and full sun. It is the provincial tree of Saraburi, Thailand, and var. floribunda is IUCN Vulnerable.
