Serenoa repens – Silver form

Current bid: $3.00

Serenoa repens, commonly known as the saw palmetto, is a low-growing, clumping fan palm native to the southeastern United States, especially Florida. The silver form is particularly prized for its striking foliage: the palmate leaves are a bright, glaucous silver on both surfaces, catching and reflecting sunlight with a shimmering effect. Unlike solitary-stemmed palms, Serenoa repens spreads slowly by creeping, subterranean stems, often forming dense colonies over time. In the wild it thrives in sandy pine flatwoods, coastal scrubs, and well-drained hammocks, demonstrating remarkable resilience to drought, fire, and salt spray. This hardy palm is extremely slow-growing but long-lived, well suited to well-drained, sandy, nutrient-poor soils. The silver form, found naturally in parts of eastern Florida, is especially valued in cultivation for its luminous ornamental qualities and durability under harsh coastal conditions.
