Current bid: $26.00
This beautiful, large “belly” palm has a swollen, bottle-shaped trunk up to 70 ft. tall in the wild, but half that size in cultivation. It is ca. 1 ft. in diameter at the base, enlarges towards the middle and narrows again near the crown. It is know as the cherry or wine palm and is native to the dry hillsides of Hispaniola. It has strongly arching, slightly plumose, pinnate leaves 7-10 ft. long bearing a short 2 ft. crownshaft. Its inflorescences are 4-6 ft. long bearing bright red, 1 inch, cherry-sized fruits giving it the common name of cherry palm.
